Configuration
Configuration controls the schema of your asset inventory: the types of things you track and the properties that describe them. VSEC ships with sensible defaults, and you can extend both to fit how your team models its products.
Configuration lives under Asset Manager → Settings.
Asset Types
Every asset belongs to a type, and the type determines which properties are available. Three types are provided out of the box:
| Type | Icon | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Car | A top-level vehicle platform or product line |
| Feature | Gear | A functional capability or software subsystem |
| Component | Puzzle piece | A hardware ECU or physical module |
You can also create custom types and organize them in a hierarchy (e.g. a “Gateway ECU” type under “Component”). See Asset Types for full details.
Asset Properties
Properties are the fields that hold information about an asset. VSEC ships with three default properties:
| Property | Data Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Product Owner | Person | Responsible person for the product |
| Keywords | Tags | Drives threat intelligence and test case relevance matching |
| Interfaces | Multi-select | External attack surfaces (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CAN, USB, etc.) |
Other properties, such as Product ID, Vehicle Line, and Model Year, appear only when an import creates them.
You can define additional properties with custom data types (Short Text, Long Text, Tags, Select, Custom Select, Multi-select, Person, Number, Date, Record, SBOM, HBOM) and assign them to one or more types. See Asset Properties for full details.
