Assets

An asset is any product, system, or component you want to track in VSEC. Each asset belongs to a type, carries a set of properties, and can be linked to other assets in parent-child hierarchies.

In practice, assets usually represent:

  • A vehicle platform (e.g. “Compact A 2026”)
  • A feature or software function (e.g. “Over-the-Air Update”)
  • An ECU or hardware component (e.g. “Telematics Control Unit”)

Asset Hierarchy

Assets can be organized into parent-child relationships. A typical hierarchy looks like:

Vehicle: Compact A 2026
└── Feature: Over-the-Air Update
    ├── Component: Telematics Control Unit
    └── Component: Infotainment System

An asset can only be linked under a parent whose type is the direct parent type of its own type. The default types are seeded as Vehicle → Feature → Component, so a Feature links directly under a Vehicle and a Component under a Feature. See Asset Types → Type Hierarchy.

Hierarchies are managed through the Links tab on any asset detail page and visualized in the Tree View.
